Why does my checkout button say "Place order"?

Last updated April 25, 2026

Answer

The text on your checkout button is legally prescribed and differs per website language:

  • Dutch: "Bestelling plaatsen" (BW 6:230v)
  • English: "Place order"
  • German: "Kostenpflichtig bestellen" (BGB 312j)

Why?

The law requires customers to clearly see they are entering a payment obligation. Texts like "Checkout" or "Go to checkout" are insufficient.

What else?

  • Pre-checkout text: Above the checkout button there is text about your Terms and Privacy Policy
  • Digital content waiver: For paid courses, customers must check a box waiving their right of withdrawal
  • Subscriptions: Below the button there is text that the subscription auto-renews

Tips

  • These texts are automatic and cannot be customized
  • They are part of your legal compliance
